Architecture, subordinate to man, has always served to provide, contribute, create, preserve, define, assist, facilitate and amaze. It has always in some way essentially been infrastructure, a back-up system, utilized by man. However, the power it entails fulfilling various desires overpowers the man – thus giving rise to new questions. It becomes a powerful factor which further affects people’s needs. Architecture creates architecture. Today, reexamining function of architecture brings us back to man and his basic needs-such as is the need for place.

There is one problem that will affect everyone in the World. The age of cheap energy will decline after the year 2020. From 2020 the world wide oil supply will reduce. Parallel to this reduction in oil supply will be a reduction, year by year, in our society’s ability to extract, manufacture, transport, communicate, sell and purchase resources at previous economic levels.

The overall picture shows that the modern age has brought most of the elements that contribute to the quality of experiencing things that surround us. The architecture is an example where it is commonly realized. Being a kind of art that is used for the basic necessities of life it can have a dual role in the process of experiencing, thus it is not fair to arbiter which of them is more important to those who use it or those who take pleasure in it.
