WAVE DILFERT

credit Walling McGarity Photography

The Principals present the newest chapter in their exploration of interactive architecture, Wave Dilfert: Wave (moves in wave-form oscillations) + Dilfert (geek-like intelligence, absorbs information like a sponge). Wave Dilfert is a new kind of space that reads the changes in light and shadow occurring within it, catalogs and calculates them, then pulses, contracts or expands in reaction. The installation was inspired by the work of Ushahidi; a non-profit, crowdsourcing disaster relief, tech innovator. Much how Ushahidi de-mystifies the complexities of war-torn or disastor ridden locales, The Principals developed a system that could de-mystify the complexities of space through sourcing the information of its users and making it accessible through interaction.

Lighting art at EYE, the new Amsterdam film museum

On 4 April, the EYE Film Institute Netherlands was opened – after having been relocated to a brand-new and above all larger building – in an inauguration ceremony attended by Queen Beatrix. The futuristic building has included 92 Starbricks, a work by artist Olafur Eliasson. Starbrick is part of Zumtobel’s Masterpiece collection – works of lighting art developed by the luminaire manufacturer in collaboration with renowned architects, designers and artists.

our ideas and works originate and develop inbetween architecture, the visual arts and object design. we are interested in exploring the potential of interactions between these fields to find individual and innovative solutions for the coherence of space and media.

dOCUMENTA (13)

dOCUMENTA (13)

The architecture of the dOCUMENTA (13) utilises that which is already there – as authentically as possible. Kassel, largely destroyed in World War II, was rebuilt more or less from scratch in the mid-50s. This naturally presented something of a Herculean task, which speaks of the spirit of optimism present at the time. The curatorial guiding theme of “Destruction & Rebuilding“ is the thread which runs through the architectural realisation.
