Our master plan proposal for the Norwegian city of Åndalsnes turns the old industry train tracks into a new kind of infrastructure for mobile buildings that can be rolled back and forth depending on seasons and situations. For example, we propose a rolling hotel, a rolling public bath, a rolling park and a rolling concert hall.
There is one problem that will affect everyone in the World. The age of cheap energy will decline after the year 2020. From 2020 the world wide oil supply will reduce. Parallel to this reduction in oil supply will be a reduction, year by year, in our society’s ability to extract, manufacture, transport, communicate, sell and purchase resources at previous economic levels.
M3house + Chinese practice UAO Creations collaborated to produce ‘Blox’, a prefabricated prototypical home intended to serve an affordable housing option. Presented at the 2011 Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture during the exhibition ’10 million units: housing an affordable city’, the innovative unit reflects an ancient chinese idea for self-sustained settlements within the city.
Our idea was to create a body in the roof, acting like a living organism finding different views of the city. In this way its articulated body adapts to the building’s shape. (diagram 1) We would like to make people wondering what is that shape on the roof.
