IS THERE A DUAL PLEASURE?

The overall picture shows that the modern age has brought most of the elements that contribute to the quality of experiencing things that surround us. The architecture is an example where it is commonly realized. Being a kind of art that is used for the basic necessities of life it can have a dual role in the process of experiencing, thus it is not fair to arbiter which of them is more important to those who use it or those who take pleasure in it.

Netherlands example, its ventures of the expansion of the building area, is a well known project. So far the only recognized method of creating new building grounds has been the method of drainage. Contemporary architecture is looking for more attractive and less expensive solutions – building on water could be one of them.

My architecture is better than your architecture

What would cities look like if there were no differences in the attitudes about architecture and generally art? Generational and temporal differences in ideas certainly contributed to the development of art. Competitions of ideas and also the competing vanities of artists, almost without exceptions, brought something good.

Upgrade or demolish?

The question is how to estimate, within say 70 to 100 years, which structures should be retained and restored and which should be demolished. Does the issue of energy efficiency or the change of users habits in older buildings have an impact? Perhaps it is time for a new course in architecture, a more mature approach to contemporary architecture that does not necessarily imply the demolition of old buildings that are still in good shape. With only minor modifications these buildings can continue to function efficiently as well as meeting the new standards of today’s building codes.
